How to Pray Istikhara:

Praying Istikhara is a practice in Islam that involves seeking guidance from Allah when making important decisions or choices. Some key points about Istikhara:

  • Meaning: Istikhara translates to "seeking goodness" or "seeking the best outcome." It is a prayer of guidance and supplication offered to seek Allah's help in making a decision.

  • Process: When faced with a choice or decision, a person performs a specific prayer known as Salat al-Istikhara, usually consisting of two rak'ahs (units of prayer) followed by a supplication asking for Allah's guidance.

  • Intentions: The individual making Istikhara sincerely asks Allah to guide them towards what is truly best for them in this world and the Hereafter, whether they are aware of it or not.

  • Trust in Allah: Istikhara is an act of placing trust in Allah's wisdom and knowledge, acknowledging that He knows what is best for His servants.

  • Patience and Acceptance: After performing Istikhara, one should remain patient and trust that Allah will guide them to the right decision, even if it may not align with their initial preferences.

  • Not a Fortune-Telling: It is essential to understand that Istikhara is not a form of fortune-telling or a guarantee of a specific outcome. Rather, it is a way to seek Allah's guidance and blessings in making choices and that what happens will be the best for us.

  • Peace of Mind: Through Istikhara, believers find a peace of mind knowing that they have sought divine guidance in their decision-making process, which can alleviate anxiety and uncertainty.

Overall, Istikhara is a powerful practice that allows Muslims to seek Allah's guidance and blessings in their daily lives, fostering a deeper connection with their faith and a sense of reliance on the wisdom of the Creator, for he is the All-Knowing.

Have Faith in Allah & the decision that was made with patience
O Allah, I seek guidance from Your knowledge and power from Your might
allaahumma innee astakheeruka bi 'ilmika wa astaqdiruka biqudratika

And I ask You from Your tremendous favor
wa as'aluka min fadhlikal-'adheem

Verily, You have power and I do not have power
fa'innaka taqdiru wa laa aqdiru

And You know and I do not know and You are the knowing of the unseen
wa ta'lamu wa laa a'lamu wa anta a'l-laamul-ghuyoob

O Allah if You know that this matter is good for my religion, my livelihood and my affairs
allaahumma in kunta ta'lamu anna haadhal-amra khayrun lee fee deenee wa ma'aashee wa 'aaqibati amree

Then decree it for me and make it easy for me and bless me in it
faqdurhu lee wa yassirhu lee thumma baarik lee feehi

But if You know that this matter is evil for my religion, livelihood and my affairs
wa 'in kunta ta'lamu 'anna haadhal-amra sharrun lee fee deenee wa ma'aashee wa 'aaqibati amree

Then divert it from me and keep me away from it and decree what is good for me and then make me content with it
fasrifhu 'annee wasrifnee 'anhu waqdur liyal-khayra haythu kaana thumma ardhinee bihi
